HIKING TRAILS
Two hiking trails have been re-opened and clearly marked out at Hawequas,
a 2km trail and a 4km trail (refer to map reduction). The 2km trail goes
up past the Wardens house, offering spectacular views and an aerial view
of the Ranch. It then goes down the front of the hill and ends on the
road to the cottage. The 4km trail starts at the dam and goes up past
our weir (out of bounds) to the very top of the tallest hill to the southeast
of the main house, offering spectacular views, even as far as Table Mountain.
It then descends towards Du Toits Kloof, and returns just above the Spruit
River and ends in the pine forest next to the barn. Try these on your
next visit.

Trails at Hawequas
DIRECTIONS TO HAWEQUAS
The ranch is situated just outside Wellington, about an hour's drive
from Cape Town.
Directions
to Hawequas
From Cape Town, take the N1 North to the Klapmuts turn off, Exit No 47,
Route R44. Turn LEFT and follow the R44 to Wellington. At Wellington,
you reach a T-junction at the top of hill at the traffic lights. Here
you turn LEFT to join the double carriageway from Paarl (R301). After
½ km the road starts turning left and going downhill. Get into
the right-hand lane. There is a fountain on the right, and at this point
turn RIGHT into Blouvlei Rd. (If you reach the traffic light with the
church on your left, you have gone too far - turn back and try again.)
Follow the Blouvlei Rd for about 4km, and turn right at the Olyvenbosch
turn-off sign (also Hawequas Scout Ranch sign). Follow the gravel road,
with signs all the way, without turning off until there is a steep hill
and a large Scout sign, where you turn sharp LEFT. Go through the big
sliding gate (if locked phone 864-1191 for the Warden). Follow the road
and signs, and do not wander off this road as you are now on private property.
Pass the dam on your left, cross the river through the gate over a narrow
bridge (max 4 tons). Go up the steep hill to the Hawequas gate.
