WESTERN CAPE SCOUTINGGallant Shield Winners
In the early days of Scouting in South Africa there were separate Divisions for Black, White, Coloured and Indian Scouting. The Gallant Shield has its roots in the then Coloured Division. The Heritage Team is most grateful to Winston Adams, who was their past Divisional Secretary in the late 1960's for this information he has passed on to us.
The Gallant Shield was donated by Mr James Gallant, the Divisional Commissioner for Cubs and who went on to become the first Field Commissioner for the Coloured Association and worked country-wide. Winston recalls, I was the Sixer of the Six that won the Gallant Shield in its first year of competition in 1951 - my Cub Pack 5th Cape Town appears on the shield. This competition was not run every year and the list of winners is as per the Tags on the Shield.
