REGATTAS

Regattas are held at the Base three times a year.   The competition is competed for by Scouts and Guides in the Western Cape, all vying to win the prize Binnacle.  All competing teams take part in pulling (rowing) and sailing races, using the standard Scout Saldanha dinghies.

The final regatta of the year coincides with JOTA and a special radio station is erected for the event.

The teams prepare for the start of the sailing. Is it over yet? I need the bathroom - reallllll bad!

SEAMANSHIP COMPETITION

This is a highlight of the year for all of the Sea Scout Groups.   It gives the Scouts an opportunity to take their Saldanhas to sea.    For the past few years the competition has been run in Simonstown, with competitiors sailing around Roman Rock lighthouse, weather permitting.   Land crews carry out various other tasks, which test their Seamanship badge work, while their fellow Scouts are at sea.
