Bay to Bay Challenge

On 8 November 2008 the Bay to Bay Challenge race took place between Jeffreys Bay and Algoa Bay in the Eastern Cape. This event is a joint initiative between Scouts and the athletic community.

This year the event didn't coincide with school holidays, so Scout numbers were down, but 30 Scouts started the race, and 8 completed the 100 km walk, the youngest being an 11 year old girl Scout! Another 2 Scouts completed the 50 km walk/run.

This year for the first time half of the 100km event participants were non Scouts, so the word about the event is spreading in the sports world. Scout participants have gained respect from the athletic community in the past 2 years.

Next year's event will move back to September to accommodate Scout participation, and also to encourage school participation in the relay race. This is an opportunity for Scouting to make our mark and grow with an event that reaches a greater community than only Scouts. We hope that Scout participation will grow and make a serious public impact.

To find out more, come down to Port Elizabeth next September to find out!
