National
Cub Challenge 2009
"SHARING IS CARING"
Lord Baden-Powell, our founder, said: "I often think that
when the sun goes down, the world is hidden by a big blanket from
the light of heaven, but the stars are little holes pierced in that
blanket by those who have done good deeds in this world. The stars
are not all the same size; some are big, some are little, and some
men have done small deeds, but they have made their hole in the
blanket by doing good before they went to heaven. Try and make your
hole in the blanket by good work while you are on earth. It is some
thing to be good, but it is far better to do good".
Let's bear in mind Baden-Powell's words when we take part in this
year's National Challenge. As usual, there are three sections to
the Challenge:
"SHARING"
There are so many people in our communities - doctors, nurses,
police personnel, fire fighters, care givers, religious leaders,
the list is endless - who do so much behind the scenes to take care
of our well being. How much do we know about what their work entails?
Well, why not invite them to your pack meeting to "share"
what they do on a daily basis. Get to know more about them and see
where you, as part of the community, can assist in any way.
"CARE BEARS"
Take part in the special pack meeting. Remember, this programme
is not cast in stone and can be adapted to suit your Pack.
"CARING"
Everyone is going through difficult times at the moment, some more
than others. There are a lot of projects going on in our communities,
which could use our help. For example, there are organizations seeking
to promote literacy in all communities and they are looking for
second-hand books; there are "care pack" projects happening
throughout the country for victims of crime; some organizations
look for good second-hand clothes/furniture for their charity shops;
helping a neighbour set up a food garden. We all have something
to give, even if it's only a plate of cookies to the casualty doctors/nurses
at your local hospital, so let's get out there and show our communities
how much we care.
IMPORTANT POINTS FOR PACK SCOUTERS TO NOTE
To qualify for the certificate and badge you need to take part
in all three sections. The Challenge closes on 30 September 2009
and all entries must be submitted to your Assistant Provincial Commissioner
Cub Programme before 23 October 2009. Don't forget to send in any
media articles and photographs.
