Northern District Scouter / Rover Pioneering Compo

Date: 4-5 April 2009
Location: Huddle Park Golf Course, Johannesburg

After the inaugural event in 2008 the organisers were expecting a relatively large crowd for the event this year. Much interest was expressed, but in the end either logistics or economics did not balance out.

Three teams participated in this year’s event:

  • 1st Athol - Old Atholytes
  • 1st Sandhurst Old Boys
  • 1st Bedfordview Rovers

Three large projects, two of which are of Springbok Scout Construction Project level, were completed over the weekend. The projects were as follows:

50ft / 16m Monopole (3 hours)
35ft / 12m Stilt Tower (5 hours)
20ft / 6m Trebuchet (4 hours)

The overall winners of the competition was 1st Sandhurst (with 92%) and in doing so kept the
trophy within Northern District.

The Old Atholytes (with 85%) and Bedfordview (with 77%) Rovers came in 2nd and 3rd respectively.

The event was enjoyed by all and many broken and battered bodies were to be found after the gruelling challenge.

Here are some photos from the weekend of the projects and constructors.

Congratulations to 1st Sandhurst on winning their first ever Scouter/Rover Pioneering Compo & a big thank you to Huddle Park Golf Course for allowing us to use their grounds which are perfect for Pioneering purposes.

The challenge has been set forth to anyone in South Africa who claims to have the best Pioneering skills in the land. Northern District will be hosting the event again next year and wait for the next set of Scouters/Rovers to attempt to take the trophy out of Northern District.
