At the NSC on 12 March 2011 the NSC did an exercise to “Hold -up-the-Mirror” and take stock of SASA in a number of aspects. The exercise highlighted a number of areas of Management and Organizational weakness and processes that hindered growth and reduced the attractiveness of Scouting to both adult volunteers and prospective youth members.
NSC agreed to launch a project “Project Rev It” led by ydangle, a business strategy consultancy, that would identify and tackle these weaknesses. A number of workstreams have been formed covering the key areas of:
Adult Resources (membership processes and training of leaders) Systems (national data base, standard processes and aligned systems) Funding (targeted fundraising and sustainable income vs cost structure) Promotion and Attraction (What we offer to youth, Scoutingʼs profile and Relevance) IT usage (using technology to free volunteers time to deliver the programs more effectively) Programmes and Projects (ensuring our programs drive delivery of our Aims by using our Methods) Strategic Agenda (formulating the core metrics and subject matter driving SASA leadership discussions) Organization (recommending a structure for enhanced governance and decision making)
The project is underway and although it has a target of end June for completing the design phase implementation of accepted recommendations may well commence sooner.
The SASA Facebook page has a number of discussion topics aligned to workstreams where members are welcome to submit ideas and comments or email revit@scouting.org.za , pass to your local Office or mail directly to Project Rev It, PO Box 465, Bergvliet 7465, Cape Town.
Follow updates on the facebook page (South African Scout association or http:// www.facebook.com/SAScout) and this web site. Please do participate by discussing within your teams, sharing your views and offering support to help guide the project forward so that we can position Scouting to be relevant, attractive to youth and reach our vision of ʻcreating a better country and worldʼ.
