Gilwell, Hamberg Rd, Florida; on Florida lake. This
fine training ground has both indoor accommodation (23 beds
and four bed rooms), camping, catering and adequate ablution
facilities. Being so popular it is booked for weekends up
to a year in advance, but is normally clear during the week.
Ablution block with hot & cold showers, electric lighting.
Kitchen, and all camp site facilities. Nearest train station
1.5 km. 55 km to Johannesburg airport. No bus service.

Arrowe Park, Benoni; 20 acre camping ground with
some developed campsites on the shore of Homestead lake. Mainly
rough veldt grass but also a large area of mowed Kikuyu for
games etc. The bay which extends into the site is used for
water activities. No fishing.

Delta Park, Randburg. 10 acre sloping camping ground
adjoining Trefoil Park Girl Guide site, Delta municipal park
and the Florence Bloom bird sanctuary in northern Johannesburg
suburbs. Mostly open area of mown veldt grass. Suitable for
activities and camping. Ablution block with hot & cold showers,
electric lighting. Kitchen with refrigerators, attached to
a small hall. Close to shopping centre. Transport: bus service

The Mafikeng SCENE. Mafikeng, the birth place of Scouting,
now hosts Africa's first SCENE (Scout Centre of excellence
in Nature and the Environment). The Mafikeng SCENE offers

Rustic camping ground in bushy nature reserve almost right
in the heart of Durban. Indigenous trees and bushes. Wide
range of bird life, some small animal life and plenty of monkeys!
There are 7 Patrol sites, two camp fire circles, parade ground,
outdoor chapel, hot and cold showers. Kitchen with gas and
electric stoves and fridge. No camping or cooking equipment
available. Patrons must supply own equipment. Camp site fenced
and secure. Supermarkets nearby. Nearest bus stop 2 kms. 5
kms to Durban beach front and Durban central.

Well-treed, park-like camp grounds in suburban Pietermaritzburg.
Modern ablutions and kitchen facilities off hall with limited
equipment. Entire camp site fenced off and secure. Limited
camping equipment for hire (includes mattresses and tents
which, at a small fee, can be pitched). Plenty of pioneering
poles. Two campfire circles, open air chapel and plenty of
room for outdoor activities with a paintball arena on site.
Cub Shelter with adjoining wood bungalow (sleeps 10) and two
containers (each sleeps 4). One or two caravans can be accommodated
(external plug points available). The Lodge sleeps 4 and has
own toilet and shower facilities. Close to town and other
attractions in and around Pietermaritzburg. Good base for
hikes and other activities, but unfortunately no water activities.

Hall R10 per night, kitchen R5 per night including equipment,
roofed accommodation, ablutions, no beds. Camping equipment

1 km. Local attractions: beaches, sea & rivers, Mpongo Park
trail, pineapple trail, Abbotsford trail, watersport on dams.

Wellington. 200 ha former farm on mountainside below du Toit's
kloof. Trees, and natural fynbos. Camping & hiking. Swimming
in mountain pools. Indoor facilities. Well equipped kitchen.
Electric power, hire of camping equipment. Transport; Wellington
rail station 1 hr 30 mins hike.

Small campsite in magnificent location on top of Signal Hill
overlooking Cape Town and the Atlantic coast. Attractions:
mountain hikes, cable car to summit of Table Mountain, close
to Cape Town and the Atlantic beaches. Transport: Kloof Nek
bus, 2 km (uphill) Hire costs: Bunk house (15 beds). Facilities:
Kitchen, ablutions, electric power. No swimming or equipment
hire.

from Cape Town.
Sandvlei Sea Scout base, Lakeside. Small site on
edge of lagoon. Beautiful location. Facilities: Camping &
indoor accommodation. Hall, kitchen, ablutions, electric power,
swimming. Close to superb beach. Attractions: Active Sea Scout
base. Close to major False Bay beaches. Excellent facilities
for water activities.
