Chief Scout
Reverend
Vukile Mehana is the Chief Scout of South Africa.
The National Scout Council of the South African Scout Association
elected Reverend Vukile C Mehana as Chief Scout at its meeting
in Pretoria on 13 March 2005 by unanimous vote. The appointment
is effective from 1 July 2005.
Rev. Mehana is an ordained Minister of the Methodist Church
of Southern Africa. He is the official Co-ordinator of the
National Chaplaincy of the African National Congress.
Having
recently served as the Executive Director of Bulktrans (Pty)
Ltd, responsible for Business and Strategic Development, he
is currently the Senior Advisor in the office of the CEO of
the Development Bank of Southern Africa, specifically responsible
for Partnerships within South Africa and Government Relations.
Before that, during 2002, he was initially the General Manager
for Black Business Development, and subsequently the Group
General Manager for Black Economic Empowerment at ABSA Bank.
He represented ABSA in all forums dealing with the transformation
of the financial sector and the banking industry. During 2001
he was an Executive Director at Lurgi South Africa (Pty) Ltd,
a subsidiary of a German Chemical and Engineering conglomerate.
In this position he was responsible for Business Development,
Transformation and Human Resources.
He holds a B.Th. Degree from Rhodes University, AMP from
INSEAD Business School, France. He attended the Top Management
Programme for Public Enterprises at the National University
of Singapore. He holds an MBA from De Montfort University
(UK).
